Wood and Culture

To the Ashanti tribe of west africa, the Golden Stool is one of their most holiest possesions. Each individual owns one and no one else may sit on it. In this project I compared the Golden Stool to iconic western stools; a society that values objects to a society where objects are mass produced and constantly replaced.

The golden stool has been redesigned with iconic details from an Ikea stool and a classic Keter stool.

Wood: American Walnut and Beech, Laminate technique.
